The Trifurcation of our LED lighting ranges

The growing popularity of LED lighting has attracted a large number of new businesses into the market in recent years. By 2013, LED was generally accepted as the technology-of-choice for commercial applications and the demand for LED lighting took off.
This new acceptance and demand for LED lighting has brought not only the demand to drive prices down, but also the need to meet a wider range of applications and specifications. As a result, many suppliers have attempted to cut prices in one of two ways: by reducing product specification, or by reducing product quality.
Reducing Product Quality
The issue with reducing product quality is that it is only a short-term solution that creates further costs for the consumer down the line. If a cheap LED slim panel light is made with a plastic rather than metal frame, a plastic rather than PMMA Poly(methyl methacrylate) diffuser and a lower quality driver that invariably flickers, this will ultimately result in higher maintenance costs and a shorter life expectancy. Over time, LEDs may start to fail due to the poor heat sinking in the plastic frame, the diffuser may turn yellow causing the light output to become yellow, and the life expectancy on the lower quality driver is reduced.
The appeal of LED lighting in the commercial lighting market is largely due to the cost savings through reduced energy consumption and lower maintenance costs due to longer life expectancy. Reducing product quality will result in poorer reliability and ultimately increased costs, and goes against the whole reason for using LED lighting in the first place!
Reducing Product Specification
On the other hand, reducing price by lowering product specification does not mean compromising on quality. Lower specification products can still be of high build quality but are simply designed to perform at a lower level which may be completely acceptable for their application. Offering a variety of product specifications is normal practice seen throughout most industries and it gives consumers a choice of specification according to their needs and budget. Based on this concept, NET LED Lighting has launched 3 new commercial LED lighting product ranges: LED TECH, LED PRIME and LED BASICS.
The LED TECH Range
NET LED Lighting’s TECH Range represents manufacturers at the cutting edge of design, energy efficiency and control technology, including LG Electronics Lighting range, SCHUCH Zone 1 and Zone 2 industrial products, and Emergency Lighting Products (ELP).
The LG Electronics’ wireless lighting control system is exclusively distributed by NET LED Lighting through electrical wholesalers. The LG LED luminaires are available with a range of intelligent control options, including the ZigBee® Multi-Sensor that incorporates programmable PIR motion and daylight harvesting controls. Occupancy sensors detect when a room is being used to automatically turn lights on / off or dim accordingly. Daylight harvesting uses photosensors to detect levels of natural light and automatically dims lights to maintain a constant ambient light level, resulting in reduced energy usage. Being wireless eliminates the need for dedicated control wiring, reducing installation costs and removing the rewiring requirements that come with layout changes.
The LED PRIME Range
NET LED Lighting’s PRIME Range contains high quality, high specification products to suit almost any commercial application from reputable suppliers like Philips, Toppo, Mean Well and Leyond. The luminaires in the PRIME Range provide high lumens per watt (typically > 120lm/W), so can be used in regulated areas where brighter light is needed, such as offices and warehouses. These high specification products are energy efficient with a long life expectancy and come with a 5 year warranty, meaning lower running costs, a smaller carbon footprint and higher reliability for the consumer.
The LED BASICS Range
NET LED Lighting’s Basics Range provides a solution where high specification lighting is not required, such as storage rooms, Reception areas and corridors. The range is manufactured by the same suppliers as the Prime Range but offers a reliable alternative to lower quality products, as all of the luminaires in NET LED’s Basics Range are of high quality, but with entry-level specifications.

The LED luminaires across these three ranges share advantages over traditional light sources in that they are more environmentally friendly. They contain no toxic chemicals such as mercury or lead, so are easier and safer to recycle.
